While Take-Two took 12 years to release GTA 6, Google today showcased an AI that creates endless games in seconds.
The market immediately punished the "old model":
📉 Unity (Creation Software): -20%
📉 Take-Two (Owner of GTA): -10%
If AI creates the game for free, is the billion-dollar model over?
2️⃣ The End of Code
Google revealed Project Genie, an AI that creates playable worlds from scratch.
You type: "Super Mario in a crystal forest"
The AI doesn't give you a picture. It generates a character that runs and jumps in that scenario.
It's as if the AI "dreams" an interactive game in real time for you.
3️⃣ Why is this revolutionary?
Until yesterday, to make a game, you needed:
- Years of study.
- Complex software (Game Engines).
- Giant teams.
Google's new AI has eliminated all of that. It learned by watching gameplay videos. It "guesses" physics and movement.
The technical barrier has dropped to zero.
4️⃣ Blood on the Screen
The financial market understood that the old model is at risk:
📉 Unity (U): -20%. (If AI creates the game on its own, nobody buys Unity's game creation software).
📉 Roblox (RBLX): -11%. (Roblox's "easy creation" advantage is gone. Google made something 100x easier).
5️⃣ The GTA 6 Nightmare
Take-Two fell 10%. Why?
They spend $2 billion and a decade to make a "handcrafted" game like GTA 6.
The investor's fear is: how can you charge $70 for a game if, in the future, anyone can ask AI to "create an infinite GTA" for free and customized?
It's the battle of Human Quality vs. Infinite AI Quantity.
6️⃣ The End of the Moat
In the market, "moat" is the advantage/differentiating factor that protects a company.
For Roblox and Take-Two, the moat was the difficulty of creating something complex.
Today, Google has bridged that gap.
The value shifts from those who create the tool (Unity) to those who control the AI (Google).
7️⃣ We are moving from the era of "Ready-Made Content" (you play what the studio created) to the era of "Generated Content" (you play what your imagination dictates).
This changes the entire value chain.
I think it’s a bit early to call this the end of game development games are more than just great graphics.
1️⃣ Only ChatGPT uses emojis like that
2️⃣ I'm sorry to inform you that you're arguing with a clanker
3- As the owner of the AI territory, you should encourage more people to post in your territory and not be rude.
😂
Damn foreal?
If anything, this should increase the stock of game companies since they'll be able to make games faster and better
Exactly this
Uhh I’m still waiting for them to make a good 2 hour movie for u and they can’t do that
No way they can make a whole video game
I believe it's has advantages and disadvantages in both ways. With the help of AI we can now do rapid game development and focus on other areas of work.
Anyone who bought into or was impressed by this news has never played a game in their life and doesn't understand anything about gaming. It looks like one of those "realistic graphics" mod trailers, all jerky with the camera movement, it's night and it's raining. What idiots.
That's pretty wild. I imagine eventually, game design will come down to creativity.
