For my generation, this is probably the big "where were you when. . ." memory growing up (just like Kennedy for earlier ones, 9/11 for later).

Framingham State University, where Christa McAuliffe graduated from, was one of the places my daughter looked at for college, and I remember seeing the building dedicated to her there and the memories it brought flooding back.

Just a hell of a day forty years later.

My mom was a public school teacher at the time and they had rolled out the TV's for the kids to watch the launch. Through work I learned a lot about this tragedy and Columbia. Knowing that they survived the solid rocket booster blowing up only to most likely have died hitting the ocean is sickening.

I was one year (a neophyte) in my fraternity and one of my brothers - Dr. Ronald McNair was on that launch.

Brother McNair!
Up There!

My Alma mater had McNair scholars! Sad this happened to him but his legacy is kept alive for sure

I remember that day well. I was taking a course on commercial real estate law in lower Manhattan and they had the TV on in the cafe during the lunch break. I remember the shock and the uncertainty of the announcers in seeing what they were seeing.

Wow 40 years. This was a memorable even though I was a kid.
