Ephesians 6

that is the metaphorical interpretaion of defending against evil; the current implementation of the recommendation probably looks something like this:

essentially, protect urself against toxic environmental substances, and cleanse ur body of parasites; wash ur hands, keep ur nails short, don't pick at ur face;

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matt 6:26-27
