Middle-ish of winter is pretty harsh.
To be honest, we're almost a month out from winter solstice and at my latitude we're gaining 7 minutes of daylight every single day. In a week or so the sun will even return!
If there’s one thing my yoga journey (#933248) has taught me, it’s that we reflect outward and emotionally what we carry inside. Yogis speak, only somewhat metaphorically, of storing stress and worries in, e.g., our hips.
Today, the external world gave me stillness and peace and the winter paradise I’m here for, while the internal world gave me chaos, anger, frustration, sadness, and hopelessness. Clash the two and it didn’t take many steps up the incredibly snowy mountains before I was cursing the snow, cursing the divine, cursing life and human existence itself.
With only the top portion frozen of the 50 cm or so snow that fell over the last few days, the powder below treacherously waiting, today’s hike was an endless Stairmaster machine itself on an incline. Every single step, swish snow up to my thighs.
Also, truthful and sad:
“I’m angry that I’m so weak, that my body can’t take half of what my ego want, and that I’m not seeing enough progress.”
“When you humble yourself enough, with nature and with bodily exhaustion, rage dissipates. Nothing material is solved by hiking up a mountain, of course, but at least for this day all my problems go away.”
It’s true what they say: People go up the mountains to find GodIt’s true what they say: People go up the mountains to find God
...just not in the way you think. The pain, the heartbeats, the screaming muscles, your physical stamina just running out. We come here to ask God for forgiveness, for redemption, for ending our goddamn misery.
Your will to live runs out. Is it time for You to take me yet? we ask the divine when we’re here.
Is it time for me to leave this miserable existence? Will You please end my suffering?
At exactly solar noon, the internetz informed me, the sun stood 3° above the horizon, thus still easily covered by the mountains to the south. Up a few hundred meters on another mountain, it was a different story
Everything’s supposed to be more, and better, than it is. I rail against the universe the same way I slam my fists against this worthless snow that won’t hold me up. Literally crawling on all fours to at least make some tiny, minuscule progress.
Tl;dr. I went here today. (#1204263) What did you do?
trying to emulate gnilma's hiking adventures, I gotta post in ~photography too!

Beautiful mountain! You will only get more sun from now on. How many hours of sunlight do you get on the longest days in summer? Close to 24 hours?
Yea, 22-something, but the sun just dips below the horizon so it stays bright all night
Once you've finished your spiritual journey, can you do a hit piece on this...

Got sent this pic by a friend, looks like he used a potato 😆
Craycray... Don't quite understand whyyy
Obviously ignore the crapto part, but it demonstrates how 'experts describe Bitcoin still after all these years!
"experts" is correct
So much angst. Beautifully portrayed though. Good that you could ask the all-enduring why in such a magnificent setting
If you must know, I just took my children to a Lego shop at a shopping mall. Frightfully mundane haha
The mountain is beautiful. The mountain is perfect.
But you cannot live on the mountain.
And when you come back down, when you come off the mountain, things are not perfect.
And that is good.
So go and enjoy the imperfection, because while hope may be born on the mountain, it lives down below.
Perhaps it even dies there, but dying at least is evidence that you tried to live.
Mr. Scoresby digging well down the spiritual well
I will order what he is having
I watched @BlokchainB choke against the broncos
Hahaha
It’s so sad
Bro literally lives in Skyrim.
Did you learn how to Fus Ro Dah at the top of the mountain?
Made me laugh, lol. Thanks!
How's this for topping it all off?
Inspiring. Were you high enough to bask in the sun's rays?
Does living in constant darkness improve or hamper your work productivity? I imagine during those times, there isn't much that feels worth going outside to do. It seems like it could either result in being hyper-focused or the complete opposite.
A little bit of both, I'd say. Winter pulls me outside more often than summer does... but some days it's just stay inside and hunker down. Work, sleep, gym, eat
https://science.nasa.gov/climate-change/effects/
Some changes (such as droughts, wildfires, and extreme rainfall) are happening faster than scientists previously assessed. In fact, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — the United Nations body established to assess the science related to climate change — modern humans have never before seen the observed changes in our global climate, and some of these changes are irreversible over the next hundreds to thousands of years.
Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for many decades, mainly due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities.
The IPCC’s Sixth Assessment report, published in 2021, found that human emissions of heat-trapping gases have already warmed the climate by nearly 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) since 1850-1900.1 The global average temperature is expected to reach or exceed 1.5 degrees C (about 3 degrees F) within the next few decades. These changes will affect all regions of Earth.
The severity of effects caused by climate change will depend on the path of future human activities. More greenhouse gas emissions will lead to more climate extremes and widespread damaging effects across our planet. However, those future effects depend on the total amount of carbon dioxide we emit. So, if we can reduce emissions, we may avoid some of the worst effects.
