Have you heard about Jrue Holiday? He used to play for the Boston Celtics. An incredibly respectful player, he has won the NBA’s sportsmanship award for the second time.
Jrue Holiday earns praise from everyone he meets, including teammates, competitors and officials alike. This is because he demonstrates awe-inspiring respect in various ways.
Firstly, he displays[1]
I’m one of the teachers in charge of the Basketball Club. Next Tuesday, I got to sit the members down in a circle and preach to them about respect. Not the most exciting task for them since they could shoot some hoops, you know. But a public school teacher has got to do what he needs to do. Any Jrue Holiday stories about respect that you think primary school students will be interested in? I know next to nothing about him — except that he won the NBA Sportsmanship Award twice. How was he respectful on and off the court? ↩
In the NBA, players get a lot of credit for just not being enormous dicks. However, Jrue and his brothers do all seem like really good guys.
Jrue’s reputation is that he’s a very supportive teammate and does whatever the team needs from him.
He doesn’t get sulky when the team’s struggling and he doesn’t point fingers at teammates. He also doesn’t insist on getting as many shots as a player his caliber normally would. He’s all about what helps his team succeed.
I feel like you have written one paragraph for me! Good to know that whatever I read online isn’t mere hype
He is such a great family man as well. When his wife was pregnant with their first child it was discovered she had a brain tumor that needed to be removed and he took an indefinite leave of absence to care for her and the kid. Just classy moves that I feel like should be automatic but you see so many athletes and people now just not do the right thing like he did.
I forgot about that story.
I actually know about him because of his wife Lauren Holiday! She was a huge part of the USA's Women's World Cup and Olympic Teams from 2007 to 2015. In 2016 while pregnant with their first child she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and so Jrue took an indefinite leave of absence from the New Orleans Pelicans. Thankfully it was safely removed and later found out to be benign. That move by him as a 20 year old really left an impact on me and is something that I still remember!
Now that’s a wonderful story I will weave into my writeup
Truly a beautiful move and thankfully everything ended up okay with her!
