I fully agree, but I think there is a slight silver lining here.
As we come to experience more and more AI generated reality, it will (hopefully) cause the average person to distrust "social media" more and more.
The retort for everything will be "its an AI fake!" - the upshot is we will suffer less from outsourcing our critical thinking skills to others and take more responsibility. Part of that will include a deeper focus on the things in our immediate control and pay less attention to things we can't personally verify.
