This is the long, detailed account of the debanking of Scott Ritter. Scott Ritter is an anti-war activist, and recently has been writing articles for Russia Times. Presumably that is what was used as an excuse for the debanking.

Today my banking institution of 26 years, Citizens Bank, declared that they were ending their banking relationship with me. My accounts were zeroed out without explanation. While I may eventually see this money returned to me, the question of why this occurred remains unanswered, raising a whole host of issues related to civil liberties.

Wow. I started reading this thinking it was just another case of someone who was screwed by the impersonal machine of the BSA, but if his side of the story is true, it's much more like the state has it out for him and is playing dirty.

He has some kind of history with the FBI and CIA:

When I resigned from the United Nations Special Commission in August 1998, the CIA Station Chief in New York informed me that the FBI was going to “fuck me in my ass” for the rest of my life.

That sounds bad.

He describes more of his adventures with the FBI in the article, but the end result is:

What I am beginning to suspect is that someone in the FBI, fully armed with the totality of my banking transactions and knowing I was not breaking the law, nevertheless “tipped off” Citizen’s Bank about “suspicious activity” that resulted in Citizen’s Bank issuing a SAR.

I don't know how you defend yourself from an attack like this. Move? Sounds like this guy is pretty screwed.

Ritter was a UN weapons inspector during the 90s, made many visits to Iraq

It looks like he's had his passport confiscated as well, as he was about to go to Russia for a research trip.

If you search on youtube for "Jimmy Dore and Scott Ritter" - Scott has been interviewed a lot on the Jimmy Dore channel, all anti-war topics.

FYI - he was apparently arrested as part of an sting operation for allegedly communicating with an underage girl. Ten years ago I would have thought that actually meant something real. Now I'm pretty sure it was a setup.

My advice: Go for state-chartered credit unions — and get more than one. Pick a state that actually honors property rights and takes the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights seriously.
