Being a resident of the Philippines, I see a lot of news about how "crypto-friendly" we are. We have GCash, Maya, and a history with P2E games, but honestly, seeing someone pay for coffee with Bitcoin Lightning is still like seeing a unicorn.
Most people here still view BTC as an investment to "get rich quick" rather than a medium of exchange. However, the interest is definitely growing among the younger generation.
I'm curious, for those living in other adoption hotspots (like El Salvador or Nigeria) β did it start the same way for you? Pure speculation first, and utility much later?
