Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was excluded from President Donald Trump’s team planning the U.S. military raid on Venezuela over the weekend, according to a report.
Operation Absolute Resolve saw Caracas hit with a series of missile strikes on Friday night before Delta Force commandos stormed a military complex to capture the country’s then-president, Nicolas Maduro, and First Lady Cilia Flores, who were subsequently taken to New York to answer narco-conspiracy charges.
An unnamed former U.S. intelligence official told the Post: “It seems pretty obvious that she was not part of this and has not been part of the inner circle for some time, if ever. She is an isolationist, and Trump is some kind of weird imperialist.”

This has been the cliche about Republicans forever. They campaign as Ron Paul and govern as Lindsey Graham.

reply

Trump is neither

Latin America is our backyard, Monroe Doctrine is consistent with 'isolationism'

reply

He campaigned ant the Libertarian National Convention and made Tulsi his DNI. That signaled a break from endless stream of regime change operations.

reply

Latin America is different.

Venezuela is not Iraq or Vietnam

Do the people in Chile regret regime change that occurred in 1973?

reply

I don't really care what they regret and Chile is not the only Latin American country that the US has overthrown.

You are welcome to like it, but it's not how Trump campaigned and it's being cheered by the Bushes and all the other neocons.

reply

Trump is being a realist. Venezuela is hopeless but they stole assets from American oil companies. Plus China and Russia getting too chummy with Venezuela and Panama Canal.

Not all interventions are equal. Geography matters.

Edit: In his first term, Trump's critics called him out for not removing Maduro because he is a puppet of Putin. Now they are criticizing him for 'imperialism' and 'aggression'. I realize this is not your argument.

reply

I never expected different from Trump, which is why I never supported him (although I did prefer him to the Democrat all three times).

I'm just pointing out that when Republicans are trying to get public support they denounce nation building and big government, but when they get into power they intervene widely in both foreign nations and in the US economy.

The Democrats have their own version of this hypocrisy and it's why people hate both parties.

They campaign as Ron Paul and govern as Lindsey Graham.

That is a great saying.

Western Hemisphere is not imperialism.

Monroe Doctrine has been a cornerstone of American foreign policy and one of the few bright spots.
