My family and I planned to travel to Japan for 3.5 weeks, so my wife instructed me to buy travel insurance. I was skeptical about whether we would really be reimbursed should mishaps happen. But you don’t say nope to your wife, so I did the needful.

For SGD$196.78, I received the following benefits.

The trip went on smoothly for the most part…except that my son contracted Influenza A. We visited a doctor and got medication for him. It cost us ¥13596.

Soon after we returned to Singapore, I filed a claims for him. I submitted the above two photos as well as his passport photo and stamps for his entry and exit to Japan.

I submitted the application — and got it approved on the same day!

The next day, the reimbursement was credited to my e-wallet and I could withdraw it to my bank account without any trouble at all.

I was expecting a volley of emails for my claims process. Maybe they would ask me to get the diagnosis and medication forms to be translated into English. So, I was pleasantly surprised when my claim was approved within the same day — no questions asked!!

Since I got back $113.30, hours his meant that I eventually forked out $196.78 - $113.30 =$83.48. Not bad for peace of mind during the trip.
