pull down to refresh

For at least a year, the kids have been going on about getting one, and im kind of on the fence, firstly becuase there will be endless back and forths over who gets to use it, but also because I rarely hear about any great games.

my friend has one and says the AR function is cool tho

anyway, from stackers with one, what are your recomendations on which to get and any games that are solid in vr?

from what i've seen, meta quest 3 is supposed to be good , but will see what the hive mind of SN thinks

I bought a Quest 3s in July for ~360 000 sats on Amazon, and at that price it’s definitely worth it. I'd buy it again today.

On the other hand, the Quest 3, which costs roughly twice as much (just for better optics), might not be worth it today, since Valve is expected to release its own VR headset in a few months, and on paper it looks much better.

Also, Meta isn't exactly known to be very consumer friendly, unlike Valve.

Regarding games, I've had fun playing:

  • Half-Life: Alyx
  • Skyrim VR
  • No Man’s Sky (it comes with a VR mode)
  • Karnage Chronicles (this one is mostly multiplayer co-op)

These are PCVR titles, so, to play them, you need to connect the headset to a powerful Linux or Windows PC (VR renders at a much higher resolution than a normal monitor and MacOS is basically not supported).

For standalone games (which run directly on the Quest), I've played:

  • Grimlord
  • Minecraft (Vivecraft mod installed via SideQuest)

For AR it is still too early, it's very cool, but limited to mostly tech demos at this time.

Also, keep in mind that for a good experience you'll need a fair amount of free space free of things that can break easily, you might need to rearrange a room or something.

thanks for the input, i might hold off them, still a lot of money to drop on something and dont have loads of space in the tv room for the kids to be smashing about, i wouldnt be able to play the pc games either. some games are vr compatable with ps5 tho, right?

Yes, but for ps5 you need the PSVR2 headset that is a wired headset specific to playstation, IMO everything that has a wire is not worth as it is very annoying to deal with.
