I found this therapeutic. Intuitive means we can do something without thinking. But this says nothing about why something doesn't require thinking. Often, we don't have to think about something because we thought about it before. Often when folks call something intuitive, what they really mean is familiar.

This also sucks. It means that UI/UX is path dependent and products are resistant to improvements if making them better requires making them less familiar. Producing something better isn't enough, if it can't, despite being new, also be familiar.

I've been thinking about ~lightning in these terms for about a year or so. In the past on some panel I called lightning's UX "orthogonal to onchain" and this orthogonality being the origin of most people's frustrations with it, because bitcoiners familiar with onchain bitcoin routinely call lightning unintuitive. In truth, neither is intuitive, but onchain bitcoin having existed longer and requiring less interaction, is familiar.

What do you mean bitcoin isn't intuitive? All you have to do to understand it is read a few books, read the white paper, get a handle on Austrian economics, and then realize you forgot to look up how the block chain works or what a hash is.
