Both. Spending imo really needs to be done using the LN though. L1 is great for large amounts p2p, but building the LN is as necessary to a circular economy as the goods and services added to it imo.

if something I want can be acquired for bitcoin I make it a point to try to do so. My balance grows over time either way.

If you do not spend, your holding stash became worthless in time. Bitcoin is money and money must flow, move, circulate, otherwise is not money anymore.

But in the same time Bitcoin is savings technology. So if you spend them wisely, you could save some for later, to spend on things that really matter. So don't spend them on crap things, but only on things that you really need. Spend them ONLY in places where merchants accept them directly, with no intermediary. No crappy things like Coinbase or Bitpay or other 3rd parties that do not let merchants to hold the sats and exchange them immediately on fiat.

Support the real bitcoin merchants, not the opportunists that only want to replace Paypal with Strike or other crap.

HODL a reoccuring DCA.

While also spending 1-5% of whatever is stacked or earned. Participating in the circular economy is the rational thing to do considering that is what we are working so intentionally towards building.
