With all the Ordinals/Inscriptions polemic the flaws of segwit come to light.
I understand that with segwit descount removal the incentive to decrease the UTXO set disappear but currently the UTXO set is increasing and only weight about 5 GB
I dont think this compensate the unfairness of upload a dick pic with a 75% discount.
Also i understand the malleability problem but if my knowledge is right this problem is ECDSA based and cuz taproot upgrade we start to use schnorr signatures the malleability problem is not an issue anymore.
So the segwit discount become even more unnecesary.
I dont care about the ordinals, i think that in a permisionless network everybody can upload the info that want if pay the price, my problem is there is some data that gets 75% discount and thats unfair.
What do you think?
I think it's fantastic. Blocks have been too empty for too long. The total addressable market has been Bitcoin Twitter for too long. The masses interaction with bitcoin was never going to be the settlement layer (L1) to begin with, rather L2 et al, and they'll never be maxis, but users. Ordinal Theory won't have any negative impact on bitcoin, but a positive one, and will help drive LN adoption, because degens do more than DCA, and the linear progression of money on the move is the LN, as it allows incredible velocity at marginal cost.
Taproot and Segwit were the right design patterns for bitcoin. Getting rid of Taproot means getting rid of the LN and starting over with scaling. Getting rid of SegWit means high-fees, less efficiency, and a bloated network. So for me the decision isn't Ordinals, but wether you want a sidechain/drivechain future for scaling, or the LN. I'd choose the latter every time, because frankly, it's brilliant when you finally understand it, and how composable it will be. I run a private tor-based LN for example, and manage the nodes which are located in countries I've never been too. It's incredibly private once you use Taproot addresses, PLTC's etc, and the LN can be so private that many CEX's haven't integrated it because inbound tx's are too private for their AML rules and forensic abilities. That's some cool optionality, it can be your LN, not the LN.
As governments regulate crypto, crypto will take a giant step towards bitcoin out of necessity, for liquidity, establishing trading pairs, and censorship resistance. Ordinals is just the start. TARO and Stack's sidechain upgrades are next. And I fully expect the LN to explode in popularity and buildout, esp when degens realize they can 0auth an account open on LNmarkets, fund the account, and place a derivatives trade all in under 60 seconds, or when they discover Robosats DEX. Lightning is fucking magic. And few bitcoiners understand its abilities because few of them do anything other than DCA their BTC on L1 using a hardware wallet. There's too much focus on L1. It doesn't need any BIPs, Ordinal censorship, or anything. All focus should move to L2 and getting that right. Bitcoin twitter is busy misnomering sound money principles, as if those have somehow changed or are under threat by Ordinals. They're missing the bigger picture.

Karma is a bitch. You know that?

There is no Karma, only the one where a stupid group of myopic imbeciles fork the chain to SBTC (Sound Bitcoin) and become the new BCH tards.
