Renos 'Return of the Strong Gods' covers a lot of what you write. If you have not read it already you may find it interesting. He argues post ww2 the west wanted to prevent a return to fascism and so began a path toward increased liberal inclusive acceptance of diversity etc. The problem arises however that with increased 'diversity' the sense of unity and security that humans crave starts to dissolve. Humans are tribal animals- brutal and competitive- we tend to need to form groups and thereby compete with other groups whom we dehumanise by labeling them communists or arabs or bots or what ever- it does not matter as long as we can feel a strong sense of belonging to our group and justify antipathy toward the others. This is how human nature works and especially when any group feels under threat and less secure than it may have once been- as is the case with the west and USA in particular today.
