I just learned today that Kyle Shanahan said as soon as Purdy went down in the NFCCG against the Eagles a few years ago he immediately thought of Rivers and might have signed him for the Super Bowl if they had won that game. Not sure if he meant as a backup or to start but that would have been wild.

What a story if he can play well enough to get them back in the playoffs. Seems unlikely. They have a tough remaining schedule.
