Mine is grammar.

I'm really good with a shovel. Tell me to dig a ditch, and I'll make your ditch witch hide in shame.

good at digging ditches

reply

Nah, Dexter dumped them in the ocean

reply

But if he was good at digging ditches he'd have gotten the same suspicion from Doakes

reply

True true

reply

That's not an obscure skill. Good shovel work can solve a lot of landscaping problems really fast. I've seen it with pros who know the right end of a dirt blade.

reply

Well, at least now we know who to call if we have to bury a body.

When a woman asks me, what are you thinking now?

Im ridiculously talented at making up utter BS when in reality, im wondering when that pigeon is going to fly away when another pigeon lands next to it

reply

It happens to me, although I haven't had any luck with girls.

reply

That's exactly what the pigeon said.

I'm pretty good at not finishing shows I stop enjoying. Some people feel the need to stick with it to the end. Not me. As soon as I get bored of it, it's very easy for me to just stop and not care anymore.

reply

I can only remember intentionally quitting one show: Sons of Anarchy

reply
50 sats \ 1 reply \ @j7hB75 7 Dec

Why?

reply

It’s been a long time so I don’t really remember, but I think I just didn’t really like how the show turned and I wasn’t enjoying it any more so I just decided to stop. I feel like it became too over the top or gruesome or something, maybe?

reply

Major George vibes.

I'm good at quiting. I come from a long line of quiters. My father was a quiter. My grandfather was a quiter.
reply

This is a very valuable skill.

reply

That's psychotic

I'm a pretty excellent at bagging groceries.

Also forgetting media - movies, tv shows, books. I don't completely forget them. It's more like I forget how to retrieve the memory until enough context is provided. Quite a few times I've been halfway through a movie only to realize I've already seen it because I can predict what happens a little too accurately.

reply
I'm a pretty excellent at bagging groceries.

Is it confined to groceries or does it transfer to other forms of packing?

reply
119 sats \ 0 replies \ @k00b 6 Dec

I'd say anything where weight, shape, and fragility are highly variable.

But if I'm traveling, I usually cram my clothes into a bag without folding them.

reply

I was a professional grocery bagger as a teenager and I became quite good at it, too (what an absurd statement, professional grocery bagger).

It pains me when someone bags my groceries horribly now

unless you were promoted to clerk, you were in the minor leagues

Is clerk cashier?

we called them clerks but yes

reply

Aye. Just a minor leaguer then. Though I didn’t really want the promo. I liked fetching buggies in the lot

Me too, although I never went pro

Navigation - I've never had to ask anyone for directions in my life.

That's not very obscure. At least half the population has that ability.

reply

dreams. shattered.

reply

We all think we have it. Then women enter the vehicle. Now we never have a clue where we are going.

reply

Oh... vehicular navigation... meh.

Try underwater. 3D is fun.

I am absurdly good at not watching whatever new show "everyone" is obsessed with. Granted, this actually doesn't happen much anymore but still. I think social pressure doesn't affect me in the ways it does others. Or maybe I just don't care.

I remember blowing people's minds when they found out I hadn't seen Breaking Bad. I have now, but no one cares now. Still haven't seen the Wire or The Sopranos. I'm sure they are fine shows. Just missed them and had no time or interest when they were coming out.

Talk about a useless talent.

reply

I would get "You haven't seen x" so often that I started remembering to do this back to these people. I would mention some obscure show that I like that was cancelled after one season and act shocked that they hadn't seen it.

reply

I remember going out to dinner with clients and our consulting team and they were all talking about some show. One of them asked what show I was into right now. This was around 2016 and my honest answer was Russian Dashcam footage on YouTube. That got some reactions and I immediately knew the people I would click with.

reply

i am pretty talented at packing for a trip - i use every cubic inch of space very efficiently, a geometric magic trick of sorts; under a threat of checking-in a bag for a flight i can perform spatial miracles;

reply

I like to think I'm a really good writer, but thanks to AI my talent has been labeled obsolete. Go figure.

reply

You’ll give up so easily?

reply

I don't think AI makes being good at writing obsolete. Really good writing still stands out from the AI slop.

reply

Burping on demand.

I have successfully blamed my farts on other people for years. It requires some dose of theatrical talent, indignation and the joy of pure evil for playing the victim card while being the perpetrator.

reply

There's this weird thing when watching F1 with other people. About a third to half of the time when I say something about the race (eg. "looks like XYZ's tyres are starting to fall off a cliff"), one of the commentators will repeat that exact thing about 10-20 seconds later. Often verbatim.

My family used to give me funny looks when I was watching as a kid. By now, my wife got so used to it, she just chuckles.

I have this ability to see a face and never forget it.

But then I see it again, and since I know I've seen it before, I spend hours, even days, trying to remember where I saw it, until I finally manage to recall.

reply

Not today, fed!

reply

I'm pretty good at quickly flicking through tik tok. I think I can recognize a boring one in under a quarter of a second and be on to the next one.

reply

Is this a skill

reply

I'm talented at not giving a fxxk. You would tell me President is behind me and I wouldn't give a fxxk.

reply

All I have is running fast, lol. My arms are crazy double jointed. Came in handy for high school wrestling

reply

I’m really good at remembering details about people, basically anything they share with me I listen and retain. Sometimes I find them repeating the same stories to me only for me to kindly interject and remind them that they’ve told me this before.

reply

I have the audio version of a person that never forgets a face. I never forget a voice. I can recognize most actors by voice alone and many people in my industry as well. This has translated to being able to tell AI from real voices pretty consistently.

I'm sure I can be fooled. Especially by someone that is good with changing their voice but it's a weird ability that I didn't realize I had for a long time.

reply

With the title on this post, I’m not surprised yours is grammar haha

Not obscure but I have a pretty good memory. I remember small details about people I meet once, then years later when we meet again (and they have completely forgotten me) I tell them.

It can be a little weird as I might come across as a detective or stalker. No, just a decent memory.

I'm not sure when age will rob me of this, but I'm bizarrely good at tag, or really anything involving evasion: dodgeball, kickball, football, sparring, etc. (but mostly the dodging aspect of those things).

reply

Maybe you'd be a good running back

reply

I was pretty good at that, but I didn't play organized football growing up, just pickup games and flag football in PE.
