The diagram above shows igusa, a beloved material from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto that is used to make tatami mats. Igusa can be used to make the seat of chairs because it is strong.
One thing unique about Kumamoto is its night illumination festivals. As you can see, craftsmen carve out artistic masterpieces out of bamboo. It is used as scaffolding for construction workers as it can hold their weights without breaking when they build buildings.
A cardboard chair is shown. It can support the weight of a child because cardboard is strong.
In experimental set-ups, we state that a material is suitable to be used for fishing rods because it can hold the most weights before breaking. We say that a helmet is made of a strong material which can protect the worker's head from the force of a falling object without breaking.

Very cool. Is the hut made out of it as well?
reply
Yes!
Thank you for your interest. You had me Googling is igusa stronger than bamboo? (Ans: bamboo is stronger and hence used as a structural material) because I wanted to say something insightful in the comment. I wouldn’t have done so otherwise haha

There are lots of different types of material strengths: tensile, shear, compression, etc.
Different materials are stronger and weaker in each category.
It would certainly make a good science lesson.
