For the past 3 years, instead of buying $50 toys that often end up unused after 2 days for birthdays and Christmas, I’ve been printing custom paper wallets bitcoins as gifts instead.

This year, he is obsessed about Pokemon cards...
So I made him a Bitcoin Pokémon-style card 7.5cm x 11.3cm with his face & best friend (stylized using ChatGPT).

Instead of HP and attacks, I put simple explanations of public key, blockchain and proof-of-work

It turns the Bitcoin into something fun and memorable for a 4 year old.

Over the years, this little tradition has unexpectedly orange-pilled friends, family, and even a few parents at school. Kids show the cards to each other, adults ask questions, and suddenly Bitcoin feels less abstract.

PS: if you have any improvements on the card, please feel free !

this is awesome! but are you sure that QR was blurred enough?

reply

It's definitely not blurred enough. Gaussian blurs are not good at concealing secrets. It should be completely blacked out. This reminds me of a 2017 story where security researchers swiped one of Roger Ver's wallets. https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/lets-enhance-how-we-found-rogerkver-s-1000-wallet-obfuscated-private-key-8514e74a5433

I'm surprised there are 4 year olds that'd get a grasp on this, but hey, I can see how they'd all think this is super cool lol

Zapped for the dedication and because, yes, toys are overrated for kids. I'm definitely taking a page out of this for my kids

thanks! i'm like "If you give a kid a toy, you entertain him for a day.
But if you give him sats, you set him up for a lifetime."

So I spent quite some time building the design and app 🥲

Are they showing the cards with the private key at school?

reply

haha I thinking on upgrading this with a card sleeve so the back is hidden and seal it :)
