In human rather than viral reproduction, the number required to keep the population size the same is two rather than one, since only half of the population can biologically reproduce (sorry Elon—no matter how many kids you personally have, wombs are still the constraint on populating the Earth…or Mars).

A very interesting article. I think this is true; people are no longer having children at the same rate as they did in previous decades.
I think it's something totally related to the degradation of money and the cost of living, which is getting stronger every day.
Many people prefer to have a dog and aspire to have the same validation, as if they were real parents. Even mental deterioration has reached such a point that many people now even have fake babies (dolls).
