I don't know much about China's situation, but it's relevant to think about whether the comparison year is a reasonable baseline.
I think the US had been overly subsidizing wind and solar, while suppressing coal and nuclear (nuclear takes longer than a year to ramp up).
This graph shows how Chinas government led strategy of developing nuclear power generation, using US blueprints but with improvements is achieving incredible results- with 12 new power plants being built at 1/4 the cost of the one new nuke crony capitalist USA has not even completed yet after decades trying to build it.
Electricity supply is a fundamental driver of most manufacturing and processing industries and China understands this and so supplies its producers and manufacturers with electricity at below half the cost that is charged by the generators in other industrialised economies.
This has given China and its producers a huge advantage in competing in world markets and also gives China the advantage in the development of AI where the quantities of power projected are way beyond what the US can credibly expect to be able to build.
To have a productive wealthy economy you need to make something others want and need and be competitive in how you do this. USA has rested upon its exceptional privilege for too long and lost its ability to make useful things except for financial derivatives and military equipment (death and debt)
