you should learn how to use SN better. Downzapping doesn't help too much, it only feed more the territory owner and even the OP himself.
i am not familiar with the exact zapping/downzapping and revenue dynamics, please refer me to a comprehensive ~meta discussion @k00b @ek @Car; i wud think that if it didn't work at all then it wud not be a feature; it wud be interesting to conduct a social stacker experiment - a whole day or a week of downzapping and no-zapping, thru conscious post filtering; i know that the assmilkers wud also start downzapping indiscriminantely; nonetheless, there is a way to at least expose the incorrect behaviors;
if the stacker.news clean-up trial fails, what guarantees that the nostr-mainchain intergration wud work at all?! i am referring to this post: #1279868
i wish for a future with quality bulletin of information; this is a battle for the minds and hearts, on every front, and the digital front is pretty important;

Downzapping reduces the visibility of a post, but it doesn't have a big effect unless multiple trusted users downzap.
For an untrusted user, it's usually not worth your sats to downzap.
I think downzap sats either go to the territory owner or to the rewards pool (or both). In either case, they go back to users on SN. Maybe @k00b can clarify?
Now that I think about it, maybe downzap sats should go directly to SN! It's a minimal amount, but if I'm trying to say I don't like something, i'd rather the sats go to SN than to the territory owner or back to other users. (Just my two sats)

Currently, downzaps go 70% to the territory founder, 30% to the rewards pool.
This is pretty misaligned because the territory founder is paid for attracting bad content in a way. We plan on making 100% go to the rewards pool which is better. I'm not sure if the downzap proceeds going to SN is better than that. The rewards pool kind of allows incentives to diffuse.

For No Trust November, this will change. I'm thinking
outlawed = downsats == max(1000, 0.3 * upsats). 0.3 * upsats is because it's the sybil fee paid for the upsats so far. I'm also thinking we allow downzaps to decrement the displayed sats awarded to a post so that they also convey a social signal.Boosts will similarly be changed so that the effect is identical to a self-zap from a sockpuppet, ie boost of 30 sats will be equivalent to a 100 sat zap from another account. Boost will still allow for pinning but only for a week. And, when territory founders boost their own posts 100% will go to the rewards pool.

You can just remove the reward pool and the downzap proceeds goes to SN. It make much more sense. The incentives to join and stick around shouldn't be monetary, or at least should not bet her first reason one come over here. Maybe the third or fourth reason after, 1. Great, supportive and fun community, 2. Valuable unique content/signal 3. An amazing text-editor I know sox is building for writers... then zaps

Rewards will change with these other changes.
The rewards pool is the only direct incentive for zapping that we have. We're thinking of making the rewards pool only go to zappers again.
Most people do not zap absent direct incentives. Signal cannot be distilled without zaps. More zaps, more signal. If the rewards pool can incentivize more zaps, it's worth keeping.

I prefer to zap ((upvote) a good post or comment than downzap.
I barely downzap mostly to leave a "mark" for myself on specific posts.
Also keep in mind that each user now have a specific "trust" on each territory, not all are equal.

The only thing that works well on SN is:
- pay to post
- zap to upvote a post
But you have to find your own balance.

speaking for myself, downzapping and muting works, my sn feed is clean, i also subscribe to the stackers i think drop the best link/posts, so i don't have this issue, the only thing i think they should add is a feature so i can set a higher cost to comment under me, we have a major problem with bot anon accounts
