The exodus of Cuban baseball players continues to relentlessly impact the national baseball scene. This time, the protagonist is right-handed pitcher Ángel Fernández, one of the island's most promising young pitchers, who recently left Cuba for the Dominican Republic in search of a contract with a Major League Baseball organization.
At just 17 years old and standing 6 feet 3 inches tall, Fernández has been considered one of the best arms in Cuban youth baseball for the past few years.
The pitcher's velocity hovers around 90 miles per hour, a remarkable mark for his age that has put him on the radar of several international scouts.
In the final of the 2024 U-18 National Championship, he was one of the key figures in Villa Clara's title by pitching 17 innings with 22 strikeouts and only one run allowed, a performance that confirmed him as one of the most complete talents of his generation.
Without a doubt, this is a talent that will surely make headlines next year in the MLB or AAA.

Good for him. I look forward to seeing his progression as he tries to make it MLB.

He'll definitely be going to the USA by the end of next year. Normally, players who leave Cuba spend at least a year playing in the Dominican Republic or Mexico before making it to the MLB... but this young guy is really good.
