At least from "conservative" politicians this isn't new. The NSA, FBI, and CIA have a checkered past to say the least. Since the "War on Terror" conservatives have been all about surveillance. and police state so I'm not sure what you are talking about or where you have been. Have you not heard the Snowden revelations, or the Patriot Act? Since then a lot of the stuff that was exposed has simply been privatized or renamed.
The police have been militarizing for many decades. Doesn't matter who is in power and conservatives are the back the the blue party. They are all for giving police departments military equipment. Most cities have a SWAT team and its not good.
Prior to Palantir is a different animal but there have been decades of private military services provided by private industry. Rumsfeld under GW Bush was a big advocate for this. Not sure who your former mentors are but conservative inc. has long been behind this stuff. And for the record Obama didn't seem to have much of an issue with it either. On war there is little difference between the two parties.
Palantir's leadership backed Trump in a big way but some of the leadership has backed Democrats in the past. The uniparty is pro war, pro police state, and pro surveillance. This isn't new. Not a Trump thing. Just a continuation. IT will not be roll back when the Democrats take back power. Mark my words.
The real problem goes back to WW2 and the military industrial complex that runs DC. Eisenhower warned us as he left office.
Yes, I am super familiar with everything you mentioned. But a lot of the folks I spoke to were against Patriot Act, the extra measures at airports, etc. They have always supported the blue, which always seemed contradictory to me.
Back in the day, I remember seeing documentaries about how we were all going to be injected w microchips, and the NWO was taking over and we were going to be one with Mexico and Canada. And now, we have cellphones that track us all the time.
And although I agree the war machine has always been present and involved in politics, it is interesting to see how it has super evolved into what we see now with facial recognition - and I'm like: I thought we hated this?

Are you referring to Ron Paul Conservatism or something? I was raised on Rush Limbaugh and used to be a Republican. Paul said and still says this sort of thing. He's a big reason I am not a conservative or neocon put more accurately.
Pat Bucananan would have and did oppose this stuff. But it seems more like you are describing the libertarian right to me. And some of them are sadly supporting Trump in his abusive actions in foreign policy.

It was definitely in the vein. I forget the actual doc I'm thinking of, but there were so many in the early 2000's that I can't even recall half of them.
But yes, Ron Paul was a savior, the government was the devil, the police state was hated, but still support the police, and by God everything had to be by the book of the Constitution.
I think that part of the party is dead now. It just doesn't exist. The new right doesn't seem to care about the Constitution at all, and would be happy to change it to fit the needs of the day - and it really does depend on what day it is.

Neither party cares about the Constitution or limited power in the Executive branch. Expect when they wanna twist it to support what they wanna do. Been the case for decades. I'm some ways it's always been the case. The more I learn about the history of US politics the more clear that becomes. The original ideas of the signers have long been abandoned. You can pick different points. The big one is Lincoln. Massive Centralization of power during the war years. The world wars are another as is 911. We never really reduce the power of the executive.
