The round 4 of Cricket Pool (October 25) has ~~just~~ finished and it's time we have a look at the results of matches/pool questions and pool standings.

(This post is published after every round of the pool to give you all a clear idea where you stand in the pool and form your strategy for the next rounds.)

Another sluggish round but not on us! Two matches went 'No Result' as it was raining incessantly in Colombo. It was not a great venue in this time of the year but who could have thought that 6 out of 8 world cup matches will end like this. Anyways so much yet to come, 6 rounds still left and don't forget it's the last month. We're most probably gonna get the winner of the pool by tomorrow. I just need to calculate results for other rounds like a rapid fire.

If the game is no result why does the score count?

Because before the rain came England innings was complete. You know batting occurs only in two innings in cricket.

Ok no problem. In terms of stat keeping do their stats count or is the whole game wiped out stat wise?

Maybe it's not a thing in cricket but in other sports there are always individual honours for most points, goals or home runs and if one player got to play more games than another player due to the way the rain outs work it would be odd for them to get an individual award.

Yeah stats always count for players and team both. As a no result, teams get equal points and every run and wicket adds to personal tally of players. There are many awards in Cricket as well. We just don't call them names like Americans do. We have player of the match, player of the series, bowler of the series, batsmen of the series, etc etc...

Would it not be odd for a player to win the award for must runs batted and say they played two more games than another player because their team happened to bat before games washed out and the other team had a couple games washed out before they got to bat.

It's interesting because in baseball you have to complete 5 innings for a game to be considered official. If not they cancel and reschedule it and the other sports it's similar if a game is cancelled it will be continued another day. Like if a football game got cancelled (which is rare because they play in anything) and only one team had been able to posses the ball they would just continue that game on another date. I understand that's not so easy when you have international teams which is why I was curious how they handle the stats.

Reserve days were a thing in Cricket when the schedule used to be not so tight or less cricket was happening. Now a days they are only allowed for knockout games in prominent series like World Cups.

Would it not be odd for a player to win the award for must runs batted and say they played two more games than another player because their team happened to bat before games washed out and the other team had a couple games washed out before they got to bat.

Actually these are all the factors considered before deciding the MVPs in Cricket. I've seen a player get the award for less runs but had more impact in winning games for his team.
