Recently, I bought a couple of Bitaxe Gamma 601s to start experimenting a bit with mining. I know perfectly well that I won’t make any money from it (I’m only interested in the technical and practical side).
I also think it’s right to contribute, even if only in an infinitesimal way, to the network’s hashrate and decentralization.
For the first two weeks, I mined solo, but for the past few days I’ve been using Ocean pool with Lightning payouts.
My plan is to donate 100% of all the sats I earn from mining through platforms like Stacker News, Nostr, and others: in fact, this is the first post funded by my tiny miners, and I simply love it!!
Just wanted to share that it really doesn’t take much to help the network: run a full node and a small miner, and you’re already making a difference, especially if thousands of people start doing the same! 🫡⚡

Does your town have cheap electricity?
I live in CA so mining of any kind is DOA

Running something like this is negligible. It would be like charging your phone.

Not so much but I don't care, I don't do this for the money, I am okay even "losing" dozen of dollars/year

Yes it is satisfying and the only possible way to gain any long term profit would be to either go full on and lottery mine or to hold sats and watch them slowly gain value over time. Since I started mining the difficulty has up from just under 60sats/dat/Tb/day down to just over 40sats/Tb/day.
I use sats from mining like you to zap here on SN and to buy the occasional Vietnamese pork belly bread roll- the only sats accepting food outlet in my city makes great Banh Mi Pork rolls!
My miners now run 100% off solar system so no direct cost for electricity but I only have big surplus in summer- in winter they need to be run on much lower speed. Its only viable due to living offgrid and needing a solar setup anyway.
Support any LN accepting shops in your area if you are lucky enough to have some.

Congratulations! You've taken a big step towards the future. Best of luck, I hope you find a block someday (I sincerely hope so). I hope I can do the same in the not-too-distant future.

I did the same starting last year with one bitaxe and adding an Avalon Nano 3s this year.
It's good hands on learning for those of us who need it. It also led me to get more interested in the Heat Punk movement, which I intend to keep diving deeper into.
