It’s my birthday this week, and I want to give you a reason to ask me questions. Because I think it will be fun to read and to interact. And because I missed out on meeting stackers by not going to tabconf.

Also, I think I’m the only girl that works on SN, but I could be wrong. I would love to be wrong.

I came to SN in 2022 when I met @k00b at pleb lab. SN was something @Car talked about around the lab with excitement and energy - and the vibes were 10x more powerful at the time - so I posted a link to an article I wrote. #92827

Then I got sats for sharing it. At the top of the page, a bright number appeared. A balance. A sack of coins to spend at the slots. And instantly I thought oh I like this game.

I went to pleb lab later. Saw @k00b and mentioned posting the article. Shoutout to @k00b who said the most encouraging and engaging thing he could have said in that moment. (I don’t remember exactly what he said but it brought the realization that people read lengthy posts on SN and quality writing is sought out.)

So pretty much from then on I’ve been trying the experiment of posting to stacker news. It’s really fun and it hardly makes me anxious at all. (I used to be very anxious. And I think I notice this to be a trend among people who work on SN jk jk lol.)

If you look at my index of posts on my bio, you’ll see the different things I’ve tried to get people to give me their sats. It’s definitely not an experiment that is concerned with optimization or maxing engagement or efficiency of words. It’s not even an attempt at news. But if stacker news is a great big ball of dough, I think I have worked and stretched it out one post at a time. I think I have been part of an effort to expand SN’s boundary.

And I really love doing it.

Ohhh I missed this AMA post! I have muted this territory, for too much noise and distract me and didn't saw this post in my regular feed.

Questions:

When you heard first time about Bitcoin, did you find it hard to understand how it works ? In general, not in deep technical details.
Did you had somebody else helping you to learn more about Bitcoin or mostly you did it yourself reading documents and stuff?
Do you really think Bitcoin will win?
Do you like the Star Wars saga?

I did find it hard to understand. I had it give up a lot of flaky, misguided concepts. I have never encountered something like bitcoin, or anything that made me think critically about the monetary system.
I did have someone help me - @bitcoinplebdev is great at explaining things. I went to podcasts to learn a lot, dipped into the academic research on bitcoin but found it lacking. Then I was able to meet a lot of bitcoiners too and go to meetups and stuff like that.

Not really necessary, those are kind of separate stories, like a bit of expansion of little parts of the SW world.

I ask it more to see if you are familiar with it.

How do you find now Bitcoin? Is it still hard to understand, even new concepts that are coming almost every day?

Yeah definitely still hard to grasp at times. It sits squarely in a domain that I have no connection to. But I get to be around people arguing about the minutia of bitcoin all the time and through this I am able to get in touch with the issues at the core

i found the plebs to be super welcoming - and at the same time i didn't expect them to be welcoming. so i think my lack of expectation helped me see when i was welcome and when i wasn't - which helped me see where i could contribute

How did you come up with the idea for zines?

I have been making zines casually since 2016. I did a workshop @ pleb lab making zines. One day k00b got inspired by a zine maker. When we talked about it, he had ideas for a hypothetical SN zine. Before, I had done a series of tweets where I described SN posts through poetic lines. Was looking for the next thing to contribute and this idea felt really aligned.

I have been really engaged by the amount of artists and writers who display their talents here. I think we can do more to get in front of people, and this is what i took away from the Tabconf reports.

gave up dumb, heartless and mindless fiat bosses to have a boss that's not a boss. I was doing plant care but I was in pleb lab doing anything I could (like painting the walls). So the more i got interested in SN, the more evident the path became

I still have a plant job that's very part time which I really love. so kinda best of worlds
