I have bought a canaan avalon nano S. So far so good! Here is the play by play of my setup and thoughts.
Bought it from Altairtech, came in 3 business days.
Setup was pretty easy. It comes with a wifi USB adapter that you plug into the USB port. To initially get the machine onto your local network, you do need to download the avalon family app on a device with bluetooth to access the device and input the wifi credentials. This is annoying, but you don't need to provide any personal info (let's you skip making an account), i did what was necessary, and then i deleted the app. Once you are on the wifi, you can access the device using the local IP address similar to other miners like a bitaxe.
The packaging came with this f2pool magnetic card for some sort of quick miner pool setup flow.
Gross! straight to the trash with that, I'll be setting it up with my DATUM service running locally (which worked no problem). It also has availability to put in 2 backup pools, which is nice.
Here it is in my living room chugging away:
Its very quiet, 30 decibal-ish. If there is any other noise going on in your house you will not notice it. When it is completely quiet in my house, it does have a bit of an off-putting pitch to it akin to like an annoying humm but this is splitting hairs. it's less annoying than a bitaxe as i think the larger frame means less vibration noise. I think i might put a small washcloth under it and that may further dampen it's sound.
The heat output is decent for a little machine! more than i thought it'd be. It's not gonna heat my living room by no means like an s9 heater can, but if you had this at your feet in your office or a cold bathroom (i dunno how it'd hold up in that environment) it'd be perfect for that kind of a space.
It's ripping away at about 6-6.5 TH/s and going on 130 watts, so very impressive basically bitaxe-esque efficiency numbers.
If you are looking to get your economic node's numbers up, I recommend this miner :)
