I was wondering when we would see another cellular services provider jump on this bandwagon. Both T-Mobile and SpaceX have heavily marketed their partnership and SpaceX just bought a ton of spectrum last month from EchoStar making it clear they plan to continue to expand in this space.
The Verizon/AST SpaceMobile deal
aims to bring direct-to-service connection via space to cell phone users “when needed” on Verizon plans, according to AST. It marks an expansion of a partnership between the two companies announced last year.
It was interesting to see how AST was marketing this deal. Below are the comments.
This deal will extend Verizon’s 850 MHz premium low-band spectrum into areas of the U.S. that could get a coverage boost from AST’s space-based broadband offering.
AST said this deal comes after it has proven capabilities through recent tests of its space network. The company bills itself as the “first and only” global cellular network operating in space directly through standard devices that can be used in both commercial and government settings.
While AST is way to expansive to be a meme stock unless you have stupid money to throw around the stock has had a hell of a year. With this mornings 8% gain the stock is up over 250% for the year. Falling as low as $17.50 a share over the course of the year to now ~$75 a share!

I had ASTA on a watch list but I glad Verizon is finally doing something in this space

Yeah I am wondering if with the huge purchase by SpaceX they actually could release their own phone. I don't think it would be for mass market but for the wealthy kinda like satellite phones.
