The recent NIST PQC Standardization Conference brought together experts to discuss post-quantum cryptography and the future of secure systems.
Naturally, this raises questions for Bitcoin.Quantum computing could eventually break ECDSA and weaken SHA-256.
Some estimates say we’re 10–20 years away from full-scale quantum attacks, others suggest 5–10.
Either way, the clock is ticking. So I’m wondering:
• Is quantum computing a real threat to Bitcoin, or just distant speculation? • Are post-quantum solutions viable without a hard fork? • Will legacy wallets with exposed public keys become the weak link? • Is it too early to worry—do we still have several halvings before this becomes urgent?
I’d love to hear how other stackers are thinking about this. Are you preparing? Ignoring it? Building something?
