This was originally posted in 2024 but didn't get many comments or upvotes. I found it very interesting because it highlights how Rootstock, the Bitcoin L2/sidechain, is being used to advance carbon credit schemes in Argentina and South America in general. It involves a satellite surveillance scheme and a number of public-private partnerships operating in South America.
It's by Whitney Webb, and her stuff is usually pretty dense with links and references. I thought it was worth a read. Particularly she points out the push to strip Bitcoin of it's anti-establishment ethos and the article relates to other arguments in the Bitcoin space related to OP_RETURN etc.
