"If you’re a free-speech lawyer, you face a choice: Either expect to be disappointed by people of all political stripes — or go crazy. I choose low expectations."
I used to work for FIRE.
Is free as gratis or freedom of speech ? From when speech is free? Are also speeches that are charged with a fee? When you say "free" it means "you have permission" for that thing. But when you say "freedom" it means you do NOT NEED any permission for that thing.
We hear over and over this term "free-speech" but not freedom of speech (the correct one).
free-speech lawyer,
and what exactly is that lawyer doing?

I always find it interesting when true free speech advocates who, for whatever reason, tend to be more associated with the right or left, defend speech from the "other side" and their allies start getting horrified. You see it with FIRE (who tend to have more defenders on the right), or with Ken "Popehat" White (from the left). Props to all of them for standing their ground.
