Clickbait distractions and bullshit slop are definitely unwelcome; there's more than enough of them in other sites, and from what I've seen, the actively curating users zap to disincentivise that.
I think someone familiar with the AI "research assistants" could probably hand-pick opportunities within topics generated by people; sometimes this could be more helpful than links into Wikipedia1. However it would still require some work from a human, because I don't think anyone would welcome a completely automated tool deciding when to step in based on text analysis of the comments by some crawler.
