ok, I have a hard time wrapping my head around how this happens (even for AI)
Assuming AI is a text-guesser, and it happens to be guessing in LaTeX, the TeX for the quadratic formula would be
\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{ b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}
which is vastly different form what a footnote would have been:
\footnote{This footnote should also be treated as an exponent.}
I took it as a clever (?) joke...
