I was about to post this and found that ~alter_native had gone into archive, which means I have to look for a new home for my weekly hiking posts. Looking through the territories, I landed on Photography, since I post quite a few photos in these posts anyways. Hopefully I'm welcome here and I'm more than willing to move to another territory if I'm not. Anyways, let's get to this week's hiking post...
This week we head to Buntzen Lake. Buntzen Lake is located in Anmore, BC. Fun fact, the lake was used to power Vancouver's first hydroelectric plant the Buntzen Powerhouse, in 1903. I went Buntzen Lake way back in 2017 when my wife was almost 3 months pregnant with our youngest and we took a walk around the lake using the Buntzen Lake Trail. The full loop was about 11km long with around 300m elevation gain, but all the elevation gain felt quite gradual. Although long, the trail was an easy walk around the lake. The trail was very well maintained. It pretty much follows the lakeshore closely, with short sections where it would head into the forest. We also crossed a few bridges along the trail. Overall, the trail was quite enjoyable with nice views of Buntzen Lake and not very challenging terrain.
We saw this payphone near the parking lot. You don't see them around much anymore.
Clean and well maintained trail.
Sign post with the typical bears in area sign.
Most of the trail follows close to the shoreline of the lake.
Floating bridge that brings hikers to the other side of the lake.

Burrard Pumphouse. According to the info board, this pumphouse, located near the southern end of Buntzen Lake Reservoir, supplies clean water to Burrard Generating Station for use in the boilers. Burrard Generating Station is a natural gas powered generating station that supplements BC's hydro electric dams when reservoirs are low from late spring to early fall. Natural gas generation accounts for 12 percent of the province's electric power supply.
Foot traffic only section.
It was a cloudy day, so the high mountain peaks got blocked by the clouds.
Trail headed into the forest.
More of the forest trail.
Crossing a small creek using a short wooden bridge in the forest.
The water of the lake was very clean.
Multiple power lines running over the area.
Crossing another bridge at the northern tip of the lake. This part of the lake is very narrow.
Looking at Buntzen Lake from north to south.
Notice the hole/cave in the background with yellow signs next to it. I think that's an outlet for some sort of water source, although I don't know what water source.

Beautiful. It’s funny how notable it is to see a pay phone these days.
Yea, payphones are so rare nowadays.
Your posts are so welcome here!!!

Great recount, as always. The Sci teacher in me appreciated the trivia about natural gas generation, heh
Thanks!
Hello, the photos are beautiful, I really enjoyed the tour 😁
