I saw that on my youtube feed the other day. I would lean towards it being a gimmick but I see the inventor also made the "sansaire" sous-vide maker which I happen to own and it works well.
i'm mostly talking about the inconvenience of cables and outlets to store the knife so it charges. sharpening a knife takes less than a minute if it's being regularly sharpened afaik.

Hard sell. A knife that needs to be charged is about as inconvenient as one you have to sharpen. The lack of stickiness is pretty cool though
But you don’t use a knife so much it wouldn’t have time to charge while you don’t use it 🤔
To continue your analogy with sharpening, it’s basically a knife that sharpens itself when you don’t use it.

I am one of those who never sharpened a knife in their life
