there seems to be a lot of excitement about technical possibilities, but little introspection on whether or not these technical solutions are really needed
My impression is that proponents of these technical changes (like CTV) are mostly concerned with increasing bitcoin's privacy and scaling bitcoin to the entire world. They want even the world's poorest to have the equivalent security of having their own utxos.
In the future, it is likely that fees are so high that most people will not be able to afford their own utxo. If that were the case as bitcoin is right now, most people would probably be forced to trust someone else to hold their bitcoin - bank, mint or whatever.
A new OP code or two could enable trustless ways of sharing utxos and would ideally allow the poorest in the world to trustlessly save in bitcoin. Or maybe a more radical change is required.
I am personally glad people are trying to work it out, and hopefully they'll figure it out. Some devs have worked for years on these proposals only to have them go nowhere, but each of them contributes to a progression that will hopefully end in a bitcoin that is private and trustless for all.
