Stopped working on code review early today and decided to find a solution to githubless git, as Goog setting an example with completely destroying AOSP (#1217284) makes me really worried.

Now testing git-bug to see if I can make it so that a .patch can get proposed as an issue and then have it picked up with some CI. The interface for server layer is... graphql and now I really feel for all poor souls that use that, while realizing that well designed REST APIs are the real luxury life, lol.

There's a steep benefit curve to graphql. It's awesome when your API is evolving rapidly or you are caching on the client a lot. For something like git I'm not sure you need either of those much.

I looked into git-bug when I was hacking on https://gitern.com. I probably would've forked or rewritten it from scratch but that's how I imagined implementing github-like issues while maintaining portability.

I agree that it could be nice for rapid development in an ecosystem around a central service - iirc that's what FB developed it for - but it's indeed overkill for something simple that doesn't change much (and if it does, you need versioning) and you just want to install and run; especially if it's distributed by nature.

It's also funny that the caching is killing my experience with this particular web-ui because I need to literally hit refresh when navigating (using in-app navigation) to see new state on an issue - so in this instance it's also kind of awfully implemented.

I was thinking that git-bug could be nice for git-collab-over-decentralized-protocol (like the nostr thing) because it can ultimately reduce the code needed, and technically I shouldn't need to run it as a server other than for some management GUI. But to support github-like code collaboration, review and communication, issues need to evolve to pull requests, so I am looking to hack that in.

Also, it may be nice to have everything in a single repo when running transient containers for LLM coding workloads. I figured a while back that if we're going to let an LLM code like a pro, we should treat it like a pro: not some prompt and a log and that's it, but really integrate a fully tooled agile workflow into the process. No need a gui with an annoying chatbox then, and doing it via text files doesn't scale with all the bloat LLMs generate - something structured would be nice. Anyway I was thinking that if this works well, I could in theory automate a whole dev team fr.

Yes, and I think they also developed it for mobile because GraphQL also improves bandwidth since you can select exactly what you need, not more, not less. I think I heard that in here:

yeah caching is hard for real haha, we also had many issues with our caching, but maybe it's just a "skill issue"

I don't think so. Cache expiry / cached state transition is hard and really easy to get wrong, I can't remember a single instance where it was easy to make it smooth - and then I'm talking about back-end caching, which is easier than on the front-end.

I think that caching is hardest to consistently deliver when you are still rapidly adding or refactoring features/API, but you could design to overcome that by abstracting the mechanism.

I live naively by this because I really can't afford to think about it otherwise I would just isolate myself.

I just analyze my actions and how they can affect the other person. And I have to admit that, because of this, I get a whole bunch of anxiety by people that don't communicate much, but I just tell myself to keep going and that people are entitled to their own opinions.

My problem is, I'm smart enough to question whether my perception of whether people like me is accurate or not, thereby leaving me in a quandary of not actually knowing whether anyone likes me, short of asking them, but even if you ask they probably won't tell you the truth.

I think ad blockers create a feedback loop. Users get annoyed by intrusive ads, so they install ad blockers. This hits ad revenue for companies and website owners, who then respond by developing more aggressive advertising methods to bypass the blockers. These new tactics annoy even more users, driving them to adopt ad blockers as well. The cycle repeats.

Agree that the web is extremely distracting and very unproductive if you don't use filters and ad blocker tools. It's been like 16 hours since I reinstalled AdGuard, and see the amount of trackers and ads that come in.

But please, normies are not to be blamed and made fun of. A huge chunk of the web is free, and lots of independent media houses are able to run and finance themselves because of normies being normies.

I am tired of having to upgrade every few years the computer because X and Y brainless guy from marketing wants more ads, cookies and all kind of bullshit on company's website.

I worked 25+ years in IT consultancy and support, I saw the internet growing from zero to what it is today, watching all its phases. And nowadays is insane too much garbage. I know very well why am I blaming normies and I make fun of them: because they are fucking stupid.

Change is happening though see the insane demand for ad blockers, filters, antivirus, VPNs, and browsers like Brave and Firefox. With time, as I said his feedback loop will repeat and more and more people, even if they don't know much about how stuff is working, will come out of their Plato's cave.

And nowadays is insane too much garbage.

I also don't support the websites like @SimpleStacker said that cover 90% of the screen. For once, try to see from the POV that focuses on showing adverts but in a non distracting way that's user-friendly. Like if you think this topic needs some attention, read the views from haveibeenpwned.com founder Troy: Ad blockers are part of the problem

Maybe an economist can tell us better if the web will improve or will become more garbage if people use blockers, filters, etc. to stop ads, trackers, and more. I believe a friendly balance is needed.

I'm making a list of websites I will support and disable my ad blocker for them. I think if ads are not intrusive, you can allow them. A bit of inconvenience is welcomed :) Imagine how the situation will be worse in the future if everyone uses ad blockers. Maybe the web will become something closer to pay to use. Ad blockers are making the web as messy as you don't want to see it by using them.

I've become more open to paying for services. Maybe it's coz my income is more than when I was younger, but part of it is also just wanting to support companies that provide a good service with direct money so they don't have to rely on ads or other shenanigans.

That's actually better. I like to find options like subscribing to yearly plans, donations, or lifetime purchases for software that's a huge W for me. But I can't support all of them, so if there's a least harmful way to support them and it's ads, I'll do my part by disabling my ad blocker.

Hey @SwapMarket I have a question for you, because you know better how this thing works "under the belly".

Why not too many node runners do not join to Swapmarket and offer swap services ? I know is not easy to run such service, you need liquidity available, but also could be rewarded and there's a lot of demand, like LN channels too from LSPs.

Do you think they don't yet that could offer these services?

Well, Boltz backend is not exactly easy to configure. They don't give clear instructions for obvious reasons, but this regtest manual is a good start. I think someone tried to make sense of it and gave up.

Also, one must be a systems engineer to run all the parts reliably. If the backend loses the database in the middle of a swap, funds can be lost forever (rescue file is of no use without a way to construct the refund transaction, and front-end alone is unable to do it). So one must run postgress with real time replication to a remote location.

But, how many alternative backends do you need? Two is not enough?
