I see that this territory has "all things literature" in the description and I was thinking about posting my book reviews here instead of over at the BookandArticles sub. I think Siggy does a great job with keeping up with all the posts over there--especially the book reviews--but the culture of the sub is beginning to shift in a manner that is not consistent with the kinds of literature folks that I enjoy being around. As per any gambling western movie, "You gotta know when to push away from the table."
I did not want to assume and start posting book reviews here without asking and it will probably be a little while before I post a new one, but wanted to see if this channel is meant for that before I pulled the trigger.
literature in the sense of the briticannica's definition
Or according to Wikipedia
So if the book fits that category then go for it
i guess it is a subcategory of "book" but then again it encompasses other things too which are not necessarily a book format (a single poem, an essay etc.)
i recognize it is awkward seeing as there is overlap with what siggy is doing but i suppose each will have its own culture and folks can decide based on that
Well, back when I wrote for various publications, the channel was usually a journal or magazine. It was a common experience to write a query or send a piece and have them say, "Yeah, this piece doesn't fit our voice/genre/stochastically generated decision tree." That was usually your clue that probably what you were trying to do was not a fit for that outlet. In this case, you can look at the channels and decide whether or not you fit with what is being valued/encouraged/growing. It is more dynamic and easier to tell when the winds are shifting into something else than a publication which can change drastically month to month or week to week with not many clues that such a shift is happening.
My additional hope is that the traffic my posts generate, though probably not gonna be huge, will help fund your territory some.
well thank you
i appreciate the thought you put into this
one idea ive had is making a sort of title formatting guide so readers know what genre the writer intended
though im not sure how i would define each type of composition yet
Then people would have to follow it, which is always a gamble. Congrats on the win in the other contest, incidentally. I'm glad to see the grand prize winning entry featured some solid writing.
oh thanks! came as a slight shock to me
