And if the fees are low, there's not much to bother about if someone will zap it or not.
That's not true. Time and effort are the majority of the costs of posting. Fees are trivial. Putting a lot of effort into a post that only gets a few hundred sats kind of stinks, whether it's in a territory charging 100 sats or one charging 10.
I totally agree about needing personalized discovery, which we had before and presumably will have again.
I also agree that people pick up the habit of zapping. It takes a little time to learn that good zapping will come back around and you won't empty your wallet.

I meant it mostly from the perspective of new users and also the users for who'd think it's too much. Why make it sound like "you've to pay to post and comment on SN while Nostr (and other media) is free.
The problem is in the approach. SN should be a place where we should be replacing likes with zaps, but we're too focused on other things.

I agree. The pitch I heard for SN was that it's reddit but with zaps. I still think that's the best pitch for getting people to check it out. Then, they see how the other pieces fit together (paying to post and receiving rewards).
I think it should be easier to get started without spending much up front. That could be done by allowing one freebie post and ten freebie comments per day (SN could even get paid back by zaps first before the OP gets any). That would let people get started without needing to attach wallets or even have any sats.
