Its going to take me a while to get to Corinthians.

Genesis 20 tells the story of how Abraham told everyone that his wife, Sarah, was actually his sister, and how he let the king of Gerar (whose land he was passing through) take Sarah--and it was only by God's intervention that Sarah was spared. This wasn't the first time Abraham treated his wife like this: he did it previously in Egypt in Genesis 12. The explanation given was that Sarah was beautiful, and Abraham was afraid that he would be killed on her account.

These stories highlight Abraham's cowardice, but moreover show how God uses imperfect people to accomplish his aims. The Bible does not depict its main characters, even those said to be chosen by God, in a hagiographic light, but portrays them in their full humanity.
