Its a really tragic situation -- all around.
Reading the comments of various news sites about this is pretty disheartening. Every tragedy like this becomes 100% fodder for political argument.
The rough tone of comments falls into one of following camps:
  • Waltz / Bidens fault - another mentally ill tranny
  • Trumps fault - another school shooting by gun loving nuts
  • White male strikes again
  • If your god exist, why didn't he stop this?
  • The clear result of taking away transsexuals rights, it was bound to happen if you push people as far as Trump has....
We are a pretty unhealthy society. I think the internet has made it worse.

the culture wars in the US aren't about culture. They're about china.
the us faces its first economic competitor in ~100 years and the result has been a significant stagnation/loss of purchasing power by america's working classes and overall blue collar.
corporations sent jobs to china because of low wages and china has grown 2-3x faster in the last 30 years than the united states.
instead of dealing with this reality, acknowledging this reality, and having a conversation about it, the american people and their politicians are in denial. Anything is better than discussing this decline, better than discussing the economic decline of the united states, better than discussing its actual causes and now outcome.
The inflation which is a loss in standard of living, combined with the wealth inequality gives you the divisiveness, bitterness, and nervousness which is effusing parts of american society. Instead of facing the decline, discussing it, and addressing the accelerating wealth inequality americans talk about
"people eating the dogs" "immigrants" "illegals" "the dems" "the trans" the "culture wars" the "crime" and the need for "tariffs".
as if the solution is "more tariffs" meaning that your own industries can't compete with others otherwise you wouldn't need the tariffs to begin with...
Culture war isn't about culture war... it's a result of the decline of the american empire and the denial of the US population to discuss it, acknowledge it, and come up with solutions. Denial is a hell of a drug
