To each their own. I would prefer people would make an effort to at least describe why they are sharing the link and why they think it is relevant. They could give an opinion based on the content, if they have one, and start a conversation on the given content.

I usually appreciate link posts more than small comments. 
If the link is great, I like to reward the link-finder - a person that found the link - a lot of sats. 
That way Stacker News is the best place to find news, rather than opinions (like what New York Times usually has).
