"How do we manage to achieve this given our custodial / shared node model?" They didn't answer the question....

it really feels like lnurl-auth is becoming the preferred login experience for most lightning app users.

I love it. No more spam or personal info handed over!

But funny thing: WoS require your email address to register / backup your wallet. Yes you can use a random one. Yes you can use it only with few sats and login. But still is a bit questionable and in the same time handy.
Anyways, lnurl-auth should be a norm now.

I don't fully understand the differences between these big "hosted" lightning channels and self-run ones. People say there is effectively 2 Lightning networks because of this, right?
I wonder how it works if something breaks with WoS or Blue Wallet and your Lightning wallet "force closes". Would you permanently lose access to signing in with that set of LN-URL credentials?
reply
Nooo the fact that you don't understand this is part of the problem nooo
Okay so don't think of it as hosted lightning channels because that's weird, rather Wallet of Satoshi is an account. Just like how you don't have a wallet in stacker news but rather an account, in the same way you don't have a wallet with wallet of satoshi but rather an account.

WoS is simply a bank, giving you an account. Nothing more. Is it helpful? Yes, in some level is good to onboard easily noobs. But not to use it forever only.
Bluewallet is a lndhub provider, so again user have only an account and use the BW liquidity. Is it helpful? Yes, again in some level. What's interesting is that you can run your own lndhub node and offer to yourself or to your family lndhub accounts in a more trusted way, not depending on BW servers.
OBW is a node on your mobile, but comes with an amzing feature of hosted channels (also with normal channels). Again this is good feature easy to onboard noobs. You can run your own Poncho server and offer to your family and yourself HC, Read the guide I sent you.
As you can see are many ways to use LN. And as I said in my guides: important is to choose the right wallet app for the specific situation and use multiple ones, not just one. Each one have its own use case.

This also really helped me understand another question I asked about LNURL Auth in this thread:
Thanks again.

Thanks will take a look.

Since it's custodial, does that also mean they have custody over all your accounts? I'm not so hyped about that.

I just did a ELI5 request post re: LNURL please if anyone can help answer my questions: #118675

Wait, they didn't have already? I swear I thought I've used it before to log into SN.
