This issue reminds me of "freedom of speech" debates.

I think a principal position could/should be the electrical provider is agnostic to how the power is used.

Analogy:
- I don't support what you are saying but I do support your right to say it.
vs
- I don't support how you are using the power but I do support your "right" to use it.
