Over the weekend my wife and I visited SF. It had been 5 years since I'd been there. We were curious how busy Pier 39 would be (a popular tourist area). They have a stage with free shows. The magician was good and was doing value for value (though he didn't call it that). Towards the end of the show he started mentioning how unlike shows where you pay before you see the show in this situation you pay after. You can determine what it was worth to you. The guy was funny and I still can't figure out how he did his final trick.
While he was saying he accepts cash, Cash.app, and Venmo he said "and Bitcoin". He kept repeating bitcoin. He said, I'd really like to get 1 bitcoin. My lady told me, you should give him some bitcoin. So we did. Turns out I'm only the second person that has tipped in bitcoin. The first was in Vegas and that guy really sold him on the idea and helped him set up a wallet. He said he's holding not selling. Guys, we are so early. We have a long way to go.
Careful. He knows magic. You mind find your wallet empty. Haha.
Cool story.

Ok, now I'm wondering what's the over/under on when some magician incorporates bitcoin into their act.
reply
Yeah, he said he doesn't mention bitcoin. He was in SF and since its a tech hub he thought he would. He was very excited about getting more bitcoin.
reply
imagine if some magician magically guesses someone's private key. How shook would you be, or would you think the person was a plant? ha
reply
Yeah...
reply
Ha! As with most good magicians he was very funny.
He seemed to get the shitcoin scam. Told me someone gave him some shitcoin. He couldn't remember the name. He had us laughing when he said "it went TO THE ground". In the way shitcoiners say "to the moon". My wife said, you should make your own coin. We all had a good laugh.

Experiences like these are awesome.
I've tried tipping people a few times in bitcoin, but they've never accepted. Usually it seems like it weirds them out. You aren't kidding we are early.
reply
Yeah, it may be my age... it is almost certainly my age, but my patience for these high time preference bitcoiners is wearing thin. Sure, many don't talk about selling but it is obvious they just wanna get rich quick. Its Monday, maybe I'm just grumpy but when you live in the real world and interact with people you will realize how early we actually are. I love the bitcoin bubble but its a bubble.

What wallet was he using?
reply
Nice try fed.
reply
Oh, come on! I'm not the fed. Just genuinely curious.
reply
That's what a FED would say... Is it not?
Its a joke. I think Green wallet but not sure.
reply
Ah, okay. Nice! So cool to be able to pay someone with Bitcoin in the wild. I've yet to be able to do this. I tried to convince my electrician to no avail.
reply
Did you watch him carefully. He might be @JoeNakamoto in disguise!
Nice story. We surely have a long way to go.
reply
lol, nah. @JoeNakamoto gives bitcoin away.

One of my old friends is a street performer. The show was mostly comedy, trying to gather a decent crowd around. When there were enough he would do the main attraction which is to swallow a sword.
He would always get a kid from the audience to hold the sword for him and then after the trick he would get the crowd to agree on what a great performer the kid has been and gave him $5. This was the way to get most people to open their wallets and pay v4v for the performance.
