That is an excellent suggestion. Can you recommend a good guide to do that? Ultimately I intend to get rid of my raspberry pi and umbrel set up, but I need to live with this for now due to my upcoming travel schedule.
Your good friend DarthCoin has made one for you! XD

Sounds good. You really should be building your own Bitcoin node stack if you want to be truly self-sovereign.

That's my goal. I'm old, tech challenged and busy, but I still want to try.

I’d recommend what I did. I kept the Umbrel node running for lightning, but also run Bitcoin Core (pruned) on my laptop with Sparrow for on chain funds.
Once you’ve done the initial sync, you don’t actually need to keep Core running 24/7 for cold wallets.
It’s funny how running Core is often the last step in many bitcoiners self sovereignty journeys, when it’s actually so simple to do (the biggest barrier I had was learning the steps to verify the download, but even that is simply a matter of following the step by step instructions and takes a matter of minutes!).

Sounds like you're on the right path. :)
Keep stacking & keep learning!
