Love it when science tells me I should keep drinking my morning joe. Alas, looks like it's really most effective in the first 2.5 hours after waking up, not all fucking day like I drink it. Not planning to change, though.
What they found was that participants had a noticeable mood boost following coffee, but this effect was strongest within 150 minutes of waking up. After that, the positivity faded, only picking up slightly again in the evening. Not surprisingly, this link between caffeine and good mood was greater when people were tired, but less pronounced when they were drinking coffee in social situations.
"Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors, which can increase dopamine activity in key brain regions – an effect that studies have linked to improved mood and greater alertness," said Professor Anu Realo from the University of Warwick.

These days I drink one big pot of black coffee in the morning and I'm good for the day. Whenever I see the percolator it likes to tell me that it is my most enjoyable part of the day.

I started drinking coffee because there were all these studies, telling us how great coffee was for health, mental acuity, etc.
But now, knowing more about how these kind of studies work, I suspect ALL of them to be funded by the coffee industry. I did a little clicking on this article to see if I could figure out where it was funded, but couldn't figure it out.
Regardless, I believe most of these studies are funded by organizations with an interest in promoting coffee.
But I still drink coffee...

My kids know this. It's much better to ask me a question after I've had coffee in the AM than it is before.

So many good things to say about my beloved coffee! If there were a God for me, it would be this piping hot, black beverage that connects the burned-out wires in my brain! I also enjoy it on those afternoons after 5 pm when the breeze gets colder...

Absolutely right. This is in line with circadian living, which is something I ascribe to. I don't have my first cup until after I've been up a while and done my chores and eaten breakfast.
