pull down to refresh

I remember as I was a kid, lying on my back in the grass for what it felt like hours, just staring at clouds. No phone, no TV, no background noise. Sometimes I’d make up entire stories from the shapes in the sky. Sometimes I’d just… think.
These days, when the second there’s silence, our hand it reach for a screen. A podcast, some memes, a scroll of some posts, or a song before bed, or while waiting in line. The quiet moments that once shaped my imagination they now gets drowned out before they even begin.
Maybe the real necessary boredom it wasn’t a curse. Maybe it was a gift. A training ground for patience, creativity, innovation, or even wonder.
So here’s the my only one question: when was the last time when you were truly bored?
I just did a "digital detox" yesterday (#1093374).
Not boring, but no screens. It feels good. I need to figure out how to screen-proof a greater percentage of my time.

I've been in a semi stranded situation in a city I'm not too fond of. For four days, lots of sleeping and reflecting. Still tempted to be "productive" with podcasts and more lol

I was going to comment, but it was too boring.

My kids do. I haven't felt bored in what feels like decades. Probably because, as you point out, I can have the entire world's knowledge and interaction in my hand in a second. I don't think it's a bad thing though.

If the events are repeated hole a week.

All the time. Like seriously, a large portion of my life is just pure, high-octane, weapons-grade, boredom.

I think the loss of required boredom/silence is a huge loss. This is one reason I think mindfulness and meditation practices can be more helpful than ever. Doing a 10 day meditation retreat with no technology is a wonderful experience.

Have you done one of these retreats? What was it like?
reply
Most kids and even toddlers nowadays don't. It's terrible what screens are doing to them.
Same with adults.

Honestly I feel bored quite often.
My kids are 2 and 6, and waiting for them to finish doing something induces boredom. As of this moment, I am watching them play at the playground while trying to persuade them to go home lol
