Earlier today a controversial Twitter policy was announced that would remove accounts that are used for promoting competing social media platforms and remove tweets that contains links or usernames for those sites.

Twitter's change in policy comes less than a week after former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey committed to funding a competing decentralized social media protocol called nostr.

The implication of Twitter's new policy is that sharing your nostr public key is no longer permitted, something that many bitcoiners had taken to doing after Jack raised awareness of the social media protocol.

After receiving an immense amount of backlash from the community, Elon Musk has offered his resignation and declared that going forward all major policy changes will be put to a vote.

Ironically it was Musk himself that clearly articulated the problem with this approach just 6 months ago.

Update on Elon's "Should I step down" poll:
Yes = 57.8%
No = 42.2%
3.25m votes

fwiw I would have voted "show results" if that was an option so that I did not influence the outcome of the poll. There's also the risk that Elon bans everyone that votes yes haha.

And, it's gone.

Twitter Support deleted their Tweets about links to Mastodon, Nostr, etc. 🧵
